Week One — God Who Meets Us

Day 7 of 30

El Shaddai

God Almighty

"El Shaddai" is usually translated "God Almighty." Its exact root is debated, so we hold the details loosely.

Scripture to read

Genesis 17:1–8 (ESV)

What This Shows Us

God appeared to Abram as God Almighty and made a covenant with him when the promise seemed impossible. Abram was old, and his own strength had run out. God's power, not Abram's, would keep the promise.

Truth to Remember

God's strength is far greater than ours, and He is able to keep His word.

Reflection question

Where have you been depending only on your own strength?

Guided prayer

God Almighty, I have been trying to carry this alone. I admit I am not strong enough. Work in me and through me by Your power. Amen.
